EV Charger Rebates and Incentives in Bowie, MD

Which charger rebates are open for Bowie homes right now, which have closed, and how to claim the state rebate without missing a step.

Program Status

Which Programs Are Open?

Status as checked on October 2, 2026. Programs open, pause, and run out of funds, so confirm each one on its own site before you buy.

Open, FY2027 cycle

Maryland Energy Administration Rebate

50% of eligible costs, up to $700

The state's Residential EVSE Rebate Program covers Level 2 chargers for Maryland households. Level 1 cords do not qualify.

You apply after the charger is bought, installed, working, and paid in full, through the My MEA portal. The deadline is 3:00 PM Eastern on May 31, 2027, and the program can close sooner if its $1.5 million budget runs out.

Pepco Smart Charger Rebate

$300 flat

Pepco has offered $300 to Maryland residential customers in Montgomery and Prince George's counties who install a Pepco-recommended smart Level 2 charger at a single-family home.

Reports in 2026 disagree on whether new applications are being accepted. Check pepco.com/ElectricVehicles, and confirm your charger model is on the qualified list, before you count on it.

Charger rebate closed

BGE EVsmart

Charging rewards instead

BGE's residential charger rebate is no longer accepting applications. That matters in Crofton and the parts of Bowie that BGE serves.

EVsmart now focuses on rewards for charging off-peak or letting BGE manage charging times. Amounts and eligible cars change, so check bge.com for the current terms.

Expired

Federal Section 30C Credit

No longer available

The federal charger tax credit ended for equipment placed in service after June 30, 2026. A home charger installed now does not qualify.

Older articles may still list it. The state and utility programs above are separate and were not affected.

Step by Step

How Do You Claim a Charger Rebate?

  1. Step 1: Check Your Utility

Look at the top of your electric bill. Pepco, BGE, and SMECO each run their own programs, and only the one on your bill applies.

  2. Step 2: Pick a Qualifying Charger

The state rebate needs a Level 2 unit. A utility program may require a specific smart model, so check its list before buying.

  3. Step 3: Install Under a Permit

Have a licensed electrician do the work under a County permit. Keep the itemized invoice and the permit record.

  4. Step 4: Apply After It Works

Once the charger is running and paid for, file with My MEA and any open utility program. Rules on combining programs are set by each one.

Local Notes

Which Programs Apply Where You Live?

The state rebate applies everywhere in Maryland, so it is the one program every Bowie-area household can plan around. Utility programs depend on the name on your bill.

Pepco serves much of Bowie and the Prince George's County communities around it, including many homes in Mitchellville and Largo. Some Bowie addresses are on BGE, and every home in Crofton is. Parts of the area near Upper Marlboro buy power from SMECO, which runs its own programs.

A rebate covers the charger and its install, not a new service. If your home needs a panel upgrade, budget for it separately using the cost factors guide. Not sure yet what your panel can carry? An EV readiness inspection answers that before you buy.

Picking a charger with rebates in mind? A Level 2 home charger or a Tesla Wall Connector qualifies for the state program, while a bare NEMA 14-50 outlet with no charger usually does not. Shared lots and businesses should start with commercial and workplace charging.

FAQ

Rebate FAQs

Short answers on the state rebate, Pepco and BGE programs, and the expired federal credit. More answers are on the FAQ page.

How Much Is the Maryland EV Charger Rebate?

It pays 50 percent of eligible costs, capped at $700, for a Level 2 charger at a Maryland home. The FY2027 cycle closes May 31, 2027, or earlier if funds run out.

Can I Apply for the State Rebate Before the Install?

No. The charger has to be bought, installed, working, and paid in full first. Then you apply through the My MEA portal.

Is the Pepco $300 Rebate Still Open?

Sources in 2026 conflict on that point. Check pepco.com/ElectricVehicles and confirm your charger is on Pepco's list before you buy.

Does BGE Still Pay a Charger Rebate?

No. BGE stopped taking charger rebate applications. Its EVsmart program now offers charging rewards instead.

Are There Rebates for Business Chargers?

The state's residential program no longer covers commercial chargers. MEA points businesses to a separate community charging program, and utilities may have their own offers.
